18 Kt. gold “boulle” case with polished stepped bezel and brushed sides. Sapphire crystal, Verre Èglomisé glass dial with Islamic numerals, outer minutes track with five-minute Islamic markers, polished Louis XV crown, gold Louis XV hands, decorated mechanical self-winding movement, Back sapphire crystal with “Tortoiseshell” Verre Èglomisé, made of black Japan lacquer and gold dust. The Ottoman Empire (1453–1922) and especially during the 18th Century, the flourishing Ottoman empire has been an important export market for English, French and Swiss watches and clock manufacturers and it was a period of great artistic and architectural achievements. Many unique and rare timepieces have been manufactured on demand for the Sultanate and the wealthy elite in Istambul. Different characteristics were distinguished for watches for the Islamic market, among them white enamel dials with Islamic numerals and gold watch cases with Tortoiseshell decoration. Istanbul, historically also known as Byzantium and Constantinople is the largest city in Turkey and fifth largest city proper in the world with a population of 12.8 million.
