Fragile

This bowl is very fragile, the walls less than 2 mm thick. First I burned in sevarl layers of urushi to create a solid foundation. The inside was thinly lacquered with black urushi and dusted with iron powder and burned in. Then the abrasive paper like surface was lacquered and burned in twice. Now the surface is mat. The out side was thinly lacquered and gilt with gold powder, then burned in. A final thin layer of nashiji urushi tinted with red ink was applied and burned in. The whole process took less than 3 hours
